The best meeting rooms are the ones that just work, where the space feels right, everything runs smoothly, and your event is a success. Mary Sumner House offers historic meeting rooms and a conference space in the heart of Westminster, named after women who changed the world. Nine flexible spaces, capacity for up to 120 delegates, modern AV throughout, and a quiet location that’s easy for delegates to reach from across London and beyond.
Mary Sumner House is a historic Grade II listed building in the heart of Westminster, minutes from the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Home to Mothers’ Union, the global women-led charity working in 84 countries, it has welcomed visitors, hosted meetings and inspired change for over 100 years.
Each of our rooms is named after a woman who has shaped history: from Mary Sumner herself to Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Malala Yousafzai and Wangari Maathai. It is the kind of detail delegates notice and remember. Wherever you meet at Mary Sumner House, you’re in remarkable company.
From intimate six-person meetings to full-day conferences for up to 120, every room at Mary Sumner House is equipped, ready, and arranged to your brief before you walk through the door. Whatever your format, whatever your numbers, we’ll make it work.
The Conference Hall is our largest space, accommodating up to 120 delegates in theatre style, 60 in a cabaret arrangement, or 48 in a boardroom layout. A well-suited conference, seminar, AGMs and panel events space, the room is fitted with a projector, screen, and PA system. The hall can be combined with the adjacent breakout rooms for a complete conference package.
Named after women whose ideas changed the world, these rooms are designed for the conversations that need proper space. Seating up to 24 in a boardroom arrangement or 36 in a theatre layout, these rooms are well-suited to leadership away days, board meetings, strategy sessions, and workshops where you need space to think as well as talk. Each has a wall-mounted display screen and connectivity support as standard.
Accommodating up to 12 in a boardroom arrangement, these rooms are a natural fit for team meetings, committee sessions, and training days. Each is equipped with a wall-mounted display screen and connectivity support as standard.
These spaces are quiet, professional and private. They comfortably accommodate a maximum of six, ideal for one-to-ones, appraisals, and any conversation that requires a professional setting away from the office.
Turning up to find the screen won’t connect, or the microphone isn’t working, is nobody’s idea of a good start. Every meeting room at Mary Sumner House is equipped with a wall-mounted display screen and connectivity support, with a member of the team on hand at the start of your event to make sure everything is functioning as expected before your delegates’ arrival.
The Conference Hall is fitted with a full projector and screen, a PA system and microphones, making it the perfect space for presentations, panel discussions, keynote speakers and larger seminars.
Nobody does their best thinking on an empty stomach, and a meeting that runs out of coffee at 10am sets the wrong tone for the rest of the day. Catering at Mary Sumner House is built around your event, not the other way around.
For smaller meetings, we offer an unlimited serving of tea, coffee, biscuits, and water. Complimentary water is provided in all first and second floor meeting rooms where no refreshments have been ordered. For larger events and full conferences, we recommend that catering be arranged externally. You’re welcome to bring in your preferred caterer, or we are happy to recommend a trusted supplier who knows the venue well.
However your event is structured, we’ll make sure the catering is sorted before you arrive, one less thing to think about.
Most venue hire is a transaction. This one isn’t.
Mary Sumner House is the London home of Mothers’ Union – a women-led Christian charity founded in 1876 that today works across 84 countries with over four million members. Mothers’ Union’s programmes tackle domestic abuse, support families in crisis, and provide literacy and economic empowerment to vulnerable women and communities worldwide.
Venue hire is a vital source of income that helps sustain that work. By choosing Mary Sumner House for your next meeting, conference or away day, your booking directly supports Mothers’ Union’s mission to end poverty, violence and injustice – across the UK and around the world.
Mary Sumner House is located at 24 Tufton Street, Westminster, SW1P 3RB – in the heart of one of London’s most iconic and easily accessible neighbourhoods. It’s a part of the city that carries its own weight, and delegates tend to notice.
Victoria, Westminster, and St James’ Park Underground stations are all within a short walk and served by the Victoria, District, Circle, and Jubilee lines. For those travelling by rail, London Victoria, Waterloo and Charing Cross are all within easy reach, connecting delegates from across the UK.
International guests are equally well served – Gatwick Airport has a direct rail link to Victoria station, while Heathrow connects via the Underground.
For delegates driving in, Westminster is inside the ULEZ zone, and parking in the area is limited. We’d recommend public transport for most delegates — the connections are good enough that it’s rarely a harder journey.
The person who books the venue is usually the last to be thanked when everything goes well, but the first to hear about it when something goes wrong. Our job is to make sure this doesn’t happen.
From the first enquiry to the end of your event, we’re here to ensure everything runs smoothly. We encourage every organiser to visit before they book, not as a formality, but because seeing the room in person is the best way to know if it’s right. On the day, a member of our team will be on hand to handle setup, connect AV, manage refreshments, and deal with anything that comes up. You run your meeting. We can handle the rest.
The building is fully accessible, with lift access to all meeting floors and step-free entry from the street.
Mary Sumner House regularly hosts teams for the public sector, the third sector, legal and professional services, and everything in between. The events vary, but the people booking tend to want the same thing: a space that feels considered rather than corporate, a location that is straightforward for delegates to reach, and a team that can handle everything before they arrive.
Grade II listed, 100 years of history, rooms named after women who shaped the world, Mary Sumner House offers a sense of place that delegates tend to remember. A well-chosen venue sets the tone and signals that everything has been carefully thought out, not just booked.
The best way to know if a room is right for your event is to see it in person. We’ll talk you through your requirements, show you the spaces, and make sure everything is in place before you decide, without any pressure to book on the day.
Mary Sumner House has hosted a wide range of events over the years, from one-to-one interviews and team meetings to senior leadership away days, full-day conferences, seminars, and AGMs. For meetings and away days, the combination of historic surroundings and a quiet Westminster location makes for a genuinely focused environment that’s easy for delegates to reach. For larger events, the Conference Hall accommodates up to 120 delegates with individual breakout spaces available alongside — the venue works around your format rather than the other way around.
Room hire at Mary Sumner House is competitively priced, with options to suit every occasion. A small meeting room for up to six people starts at £220 (VAT exempt) per session, while our conference hall, accommodating up to 120 delegates, is available from £1,317 (VAT exempt) per day.
